WATER

WATER SERVICES

CONNECTIONS.  Water service will not be connected at any resident unless the resident is at home.

DISCONNECTIONS.  Once service is disconnected, no customer may turn on the service at the meter.  The water must be turned on by the Village of Dora.  In the case a customer does turn on the service, the Village of Dora reserves the right to assess a fine of $250 and possible criminal charges.

METERS.  All meters will be read monthly except when weather prohibits.  If meters are not read, all customers will be billed the minimum and any additional usage will be billed the following month.  If the Village meter reader is unable to gain access to the meter, the customer’s bill will be billed the minimum.   The customer will be notified and if the problem is not corrected by the next reading, the water service will be discontinued until the meter on the customer’s property is made accessible.

The Village of Dora will test and correct any meter, which is registering incorrectly without the consent of the customer, or upon his request.  Proper refund shall be made if the test shows the customer has been overcharged.

All meters, service connections, and other equipment supplied by the Village shall be and remain the property of the Village of Dora.  Customers shall exercise proper care to protect the property of the water system on his premises if necessary for the provision of service.  In the event of damage to the Village’s property arising from negligence of the customer, the customer shall pay the cost for necessary repairs or replacement of said property.

DEPOSITS.  If the customer vacates the property and has a deposit on file, any outstanding bills will be paid from the deposit, and any remaining portion of the deposit (if any) will be refunded to the customer.

INSTALLATION AND POINT OF DELIVERY.  The point of delivery is the point, as designated by the water system, where the meter is to be set.  The customer shall maintain all installations beyond the point of delivery.

The Village recommends that the customer install a cut-off valve on the customer’s side of the meter box.  If the Village deems that the customer has been using the meter as a cut-off many times to disconnect their water, the Village may install a cut-off valve at the customer’s expense in order to keep our equipment in good working order.

No customer shall install a water service line within 10 feet of any sewer service line on his premises.  Water service lines on a customer’s premises shall be at least 25 feet away from any septic tank drain field or other major sources of contamination.

INTERRUPTION OF SERVICES.  The Village of Dora endeavors to provide uninterrupted service to its customers.  However, interruptions often are inevitable due to accidents, power failures, equipment failure, and related factors.  Whenever practical, notice of an impending shut-down of service will be given to customers, but the Village reserves the right to interrupt service at any time in the event of emergencies without notice.  The Village shall not be liable for any damages or problems resulting from an interruption of service.
